Lindbergh Field is one of the smallest major
airports in the country, and the busiest single-runway airport
in North America.
It serves about 3 million people living in San
Diego County and nearby areas.
In 2004 more than 16 million passengers flew
in and out of Lindbergh Field, and the airport handled about
600 flights each day.
As currently configured, Lindbergh Field can
handle a maximum of approximately 25 million passengers a year
and 700 flights per day.
At current rates of increase, this level may
be reached By 2015.
An airport with two runways and adequate terminals
to serve San Diego’s projected needs requires approximately
3,000 acres of land. Lindbergh has 614 acres.
